Artist Statement

My portfolio consists of all of the projects we have done this semester and also some from last semester. I feel that I did a pretty good job at getting all my projects turned in and in the right order. I enjoyed working on this portfolio and showing my work. I feel over all my portfolio has turned out really nice. Over the course of this semester I have learned several things that have helped me out. The thing I learned the most was how to blend things very well.
The thing I feel I was most successful with would have to be my ideas. All my ideas were excellent in my opinion and it showed through most of my pictures. The thing I struggled with the most would have to be ISO. I don’t think I did to well on that because many of my pictures came out slightly blurry. I think I need to get a better understanding on that so it can help me to improve on picture taking.
The thing that has influenced me most is really just the person I am inside. In the pictures I wanted the real me to be captured so people could actually see the person I am. The area that I feel I have improved best in was incorporating my ideas into my photographs better. I put a lot of effort into most of my projects. I think I am slowly but surely starting to get the hang of photoshop. I enjoyed this class for the year and recommend it to everyone.

Self portraits

Self Portraits
Going into this project I wanted the pictures to capture the real me, the person that I am. I kept my same ideas with all the pictures except for one of the. What made three of the four pictures most creative were the angles the photo of me was taken. The angles of some of them make you feel as if you were actually there and a part of it. The hard part of this creativity was choosing which angle would best fit for the setting or idea being captured.
When it came to composition it was kind of hard trying to figure out where things should be placed to keep the picture strong. I think I should have made better decisions on placing some things where they were placed. My photo with the best composition in my opinion was my light photo because how it’s placed makes you feel more involved. One of my photos had very weak compositions because I was placed too far back. If I could change it I would place my self close enough to be seen.
Considering craftsmanship I feel it could have been way better. One of my pictures are pixilated and another is kind of blurry. I feel the ISO should have been worked with better than it was when taking these photos. Some of my strengths were that some of my pictures turned out well and as clear as I wanted them to be. My weakness is that I should have had a better understanding of ISO and shutter speed because it would have helped me out a lot.
I feel that I had great ideas as far as what I wanted the photos to be about, or what I wanted happening in them. I feel that I expressed myself in most of the pictures. My favorite one was the light, also my favorite thing photo. I liked my idea in the two and feel the picture was nice maybe a little pixilated. My very least favorite was the elements photo because I had no idea what I wanted to do and the picture was the least clear of them all. Over all I feel that I expressed myself pretty well and enjoyed the project.

Shutter speed

In these pictures we messed with the shutter speed on the camera making it very slow. Then we tried to keep our body's very still for 15 seconds. During that time we had light sources. During that 15 seconds we made a particular shape waving the light source to make that shape.

ISO

In the flash photo you have a normal outcome. Its not to bright and not to light, it looks like any other picture you would take. In the ISO 50, the subject is really dark but you kind of see the background lights pretty good. So it would be best used if you are taking pictures of some kind of background that has lights. And in the ISO 5000, the background and subject is extremely bright and pixilated. you would use this one if it was extremely dark and you were going to be able to still have a nice picture, so that it won't be really bright.

metering

We experimented with light metering in these photo's. To do this we turned the lights off in the room, turning only one computer screen on per person. Then we pointed the camera clsoe to the computer screen and let the camera adjust to the light on the computer. We then pulled away and took a picture of our group partner. We noticed in the picture that it came out light because the camera adjusted to the bright computer screen and nothing else.
In the second picture we did something simiar except we placed the camera next to our partners face and pulled away making the person look brighter and the computer screen being REALLY BIGHT.

Personal Metaphor

Metaphor Evaluation
I chose the metaphor, “My emotions change like the colors or a chameleon.” I chose this metaphor because it really describes the way I am. I been through a lot of rocky times and also great times in like. What I’m trying to express is that my emotions are always changing. All the different colors on the skin represent happy, sad, mad, excited, angry, hurt, anxious….ect.
I placed myself right in the center of the picture because I wanted it to be focused on more. The letters are placed more in different areas but easy to read so I could fill in empty spaces. I feel my strong focal are is me because its dead center and it stands out the most. It’s balanced because it’s just about equal on both sides.
I think I did pretty well at blending the skin to make it look more real. It was really difficult trying to put on a tail and add a tongue, as you can see I didn’t put it. I feel I could’ve done better with the font and font color, also cleaning it up a little more. The thing I would do differently is add the tongue and tail to have made it look realistic.

Aesthetic experience

This is a photo of water with three different colors of food dye dropped in. It made me think of the struggles and hard times i have had to over come in life. The red which is pain and yellow wich represent tears joined to make orange. Together they were the hardest part in life. The green then fell in which means happiness, and that says my life is trying to turn around.

Hybrid dog

An exercise borrowed from “I’ve Got a Human in My Throat” by Chris Johnson.
In preparation for our PERSONAL METAPHOR project we brushed up our skills combining objects together. Using layer masks and the clone stamp we blended this dog and bird together.

Movie moments

Inspired by Cindy Sherman, a contemporary photographer who took photo's of herself starring in movies that never existed.

Title-The Hamptons Meets The Hood
Genre-love
Actors-Jordan Cruz(Tommy)
Brittney Furch(Jayda)

This movie is based on love and how hard it is to be with the one you want to be with. It’s about a rich white boy named Tommy from the Hamptons and a black girl named Jayda from the hood. These two characters are in love with each other but don’t know about it. They are scared to let one another know because either way Tommy’s parents will not approve because of how Jayda looks and where she is from. Jayda one day found out that Tommy had liked her and was so anxious to let him know she felt the same. She met up with him to let him know and they found out they felt the same about each other and began dating. After a while Jayda started wondering why Tommy was meeting her parents but she never got to meet his. One day he went out and got her some really nice clothes so that she could wear them when she met his parents. To Jayda it seemed as though he felt ashamed of who she is and was upset so she didn’t want to take the clothes. After explaining the whole thing she then understood and accepted the clothes. She looked beautiful and was glad to have finally met Tommy’s parents.

Chocolate frog

For Valentines Day we turned frogs into chocolate. I thought this project was unusual and interesting. I learned how to make what appears to be chocolate look real.

Shadows and Reflections

In these exercises we learned how to create shadows and reflections to help us create more realistic artwork.
A new tool we learned here can help me n the futur by making it seem as tho I took the picture myself.

Program designs

This was my design for the National Honors Society induction ceremony program. I designed it with with the candles to prepresent it and the rest of the wording on it. The four traits that NHS is based off of are character, scholarship, leadership, and service. So, I used those four words in the center as the main focus of my program.

This project was my design for the class of 08 graduation program. The quote I had on it was done by Woody Allen

This is just me being me in the tree!

Balanced frames

In this project we were given a frame. We had to use it in our composition. We also had to be in our photo, but not in the center. It was to be in black and white, and we needed to create a sense of visual balance.

Random Object

We were assigned a random object to photograph. We could choose to have it in color or black and white. We were to focus on "The Three C's".
The people in my class felt that I had great lighting and it was interesting. I feel that I agree and I like the fact that I put it in black and white.

Egg Challenge

In this project each student was given an egg to photograph. We were to take a photo in both color and black-and-white. We were supposed to exemplify one or more of the following: Creativity, Craftsmanship, or Composition.
I believe my Black and white was most successful because the lighting was great for it.

My favorite project from last semester

My cover page-This was my cover page project I feel i did well on the colors. I chose this because we got the chance to freestyle on it for our end of the semester portfolio.
